NEP 2020

National Education Policy 2020 — India's landmark education reform explained in English and Hindi.

🇬🇧 English

What is NEP 2020?

The National Education Policy 2020 is India's most comprehensive education reform since 1986. Approved by the Union Cabinet on July 29, 2020, it replaces the previous National Policy on Education and lays out a vision for transforming India's education system by 2040.

Key Highlights:

  • New 5+3+3+4 school structure replacing the old 10+2 system — covering ages 3 to 18.
  • Mother tongue / regional language as medium of instruction up to Grade 5 (preferably till Grade 8).
  • No rigid separation of Arts, Science and Commerce streams from Class 11 onwards.
  • Focus on conceptual understanding, critical thinking and creativity over rote learning.
  • Coding introduced from Class 6; vocational education from Class 6 onwards.
  • Board exams redesigned — students can appear twice per year; focus on application-based questions.
  • Higher Education: multidisciplinary approach, 4-year UG programmes with multiple entry/exit options.
  • Target: 100% Gross Enrolment Ratio in school education by 2030.
  • Public investment in education to be raised to 6% of GDP.

Conclusion: NEP 2020 is a student-centered, holistic and flexible policy that shifts focus from marks to learning outcomes. It emphasizes skill development, digital literacy and India's knowledge tradition, preparing students to be global citizens rooted in local values. As teachers, understanding NEP 2020 helps us align our teaching with the future of Indian education.

My Teaching Philosophy

"Every concept in Mathematics and Science has a simple, beautiful explanation. My job is to find that explanation and present it in a way that makes students say — oh, now I get it! Learning should never feel like a burden; it should feel like discovery."

💬
My Opinion on Learning

"A student who asks questions is a student who is thinking. I believe the classroom should be a safe space where every doubt is welcome, every mistake is a lesson, and every small success is celebrated. The best students are not the ones who memorise the most — they are the ones who are most curious."
